Fantastic Bullfight!------No matador, but just like a bull sumo wrestling

Okinawa's bullfighting is a one-on-one fight between two bulls, not a bull and a matador like bullfighting in Spain. Therefore each bull is accompanied by a trainer called a 'Seko' to cheer them up to the fight. Each fighting bull may have only one trainer with it but there are other Sekos waiting along the fence of the fighting arena may take turns. The tournaments usually consist of 10-13 matches and start with the lowest ranked bulls up to Yokozuna. Each one match won't have a limited time for fighting and therefore here are various matches to be enjoyed which come to an end from a thrilling one for a few seconds to an exciting and hectic one for more than 30 minutes. Thus the match schedule may vary from two and a half to more than four hours a day.

The History of Bullfighting
Unfortunately, there are no written records of the origin of Okinawan bullfighting in existence today. However, there are articles about Okinawan bullfighting that have been found in newspapers during the Meiji period which lead us to believe that it is a tradition that started from around that time period. During the 1960s and 70s when many bullfights were held, folk song performances were held as a type of opening for the matches.
